ABOUT SUMMER STAGE

Summer Stage is a 501 (c) 3 tax exempt organization (non profit) serving the young  people and families of southwest Virginia and northwestern North Carolina. These rising stars gather each summer to make lifelong friends, develop their talents, and perform for their community.

Mission Statement   To develop the creativity and leadership skills of youth through outstanding theater performances for the community.

Practice
Summer Stage introduces young people (ages 9-18) to the infectious joy of the performing arts! Young actors have the opportunity to study with seasoned theater professionals in a nurturing environment as they develop skills through theater games and hands-on activities. At Summer Stage the young people do it all–from designing and painting sets, props, and costumes to running the box office and lights. Young Actors will find their artistic voice and develop self-confidence as they sing, dance, act, create hilarious improvisations, tell stories, and perform for friends, family, and the community.

Brianna Tucker is a rising senior at Grayson County High School and follows a family tradition (mother and uncle) of working in the theatre!

She is a founding company member of Summer Stage in 2018 when she created the role of Violet’s Mother in the production Willy Wonka Kids. It was during our 2019 season, while playing A-Pick-A-Little Lady in The Music Man Kids and painting the set that Brianna discovered her passion of working behind the scenes.

Since then, Brianna has worked as a sound engineer, spotlight operator, set designer/painter, props maker, and light designer for both Summer Stage and her high school’s spring musicals. Her organizational skills have been put to good use running several fundraisers for Summer Stage in 2019 and 2021.

“I LOVE being a part of the tech crew because that is where I can let my creativity show!” Brianna said after learning she will join our creative team as an intern this season. Look for her stunning set designs for our musical and comedy this season!

Lacey Griffith is a rising senior honors student at Carroll County High School who is pursuing a future in the business of music and the arts.
Her interest in theatre, playwriting, and music started at an early age.
